At The Helm

Dr. Mira D. Sinco is the president of Foundation University, a position she has held since 2004.

Dr. Sinco graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of the Philippines in 1956, and then completed a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling, also from UP. As a Fulbright Scholar she earned her Doctorate Degree in Administration and Higher Education from Michigan State University in 1968.

Her long and distinguished career in academia began as an English teacher here at Foundation University. After migrating to the United States, she served as Dean of Students at Saint Martin’s College in Olympia, Wash., from 1970-1975.

Dr. Sinco later joined the University of Washington in Seattle, where she was an admissions officer. In 1982, she became the University Registrar and Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Services at California State University, Los Angeles. She was Dean of Students at Everett Community College from 1984-1989. She capped off her career in American higher education as Dean of Student Services at City College of San Francisco, where she retired in 2000.

Dr. Sinco then returned to the Philippines and assumed the helm at Foundation University. In the last five years, she has played an leading role in the advanced accreditation of a variety of academic programs, including nursing, computer sciences and hospitality and restaurant management. She has also implemented international exchange programs.

Under her direction, Foundation University has become widely acknowledged as one of the most forward-looking and dynamic institutions of higher learning in the Philippines.
