The Balay sa Alumni

This alumni hostel is not only a second home of alums when in Dumaguete, thereby generating income, but also a laboratory for the new HRM program of the University. This is where the HRM students do their practicum and simulate exercises for housekeeping, kitchen management, hostel administration and operation, etc.

In 2004, the operations and functions of the staff at the Balay were streamlined to reflect a professionally-run and efficient housing facility and to accommodate the needs of students in an internship lab.

In November 2004, the HRM program hosted three volunteers of the Canadian Executive Services Organization as trainors. The consultants gave valuable inputs into the operations of the Balay.

The Balay sa Alumni is almost always fully-booked with University guests, alumni, or friends and relatives of alumni. It is managed by the director of the University Alumni Relations Office, and manned 24/7 by two student assistants on rotation who do regular hosekeeping chores. Aside from their tuition scholarship and honorarium, the SAs have also been granted private and decent living quarters within the Balay to better compensate their services.
