Busan’s Kyungsung U ties up with FU

One of Korea’s top 10 schools is tying up with Foundation University to offer their students the English as a Second Language program. The tie-up also includes student scholarships and faculty exchanges starting in January, 2007.

Representatives from Kyungsung University, the prime institution in Busan, South Korea, visited Foundation in August to meet with FU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Eva Melon, and Vice President for Student Life & External Affairs Dinno Depositario.

Kyungsung Dean of External Affairs Dr. Jung Taechul sat down with the FU administrators to discuss the details of the tie-up.

Dr. Jung said that Foundation could offer a five-week program on ESL for the first batch of Korean students in January.

He added that both schools could also have an annual faculty-student exchange programs in the high school, college, and graduate degree programs. In such arrangement, Kyungsung and Foundation shall provide scholarship benefits to the faculty-student grantess.

“We are appreciative of the enthusiasm shown by Foundation University and its administrators in the intended tie-up, and Kyungsung University is very interested to see this relationship develop between the Universities, and the benefits both will reap in the future,” Dr. Jung stressed.

Also included in the plan are exposure trips to Busan and to Dumaguete as a way of fostering cultural exchange among students, regular intra and extra-mural sports, performing arts activities, and other extra-curricular programs.

The Memorandum of Agreement of the tie-up will be finalized by the presidents of both Universityes by October in Busan, South Korea.
