The FU football men’s team bagged the first runner up prize in the Charlie O. Cojuanco National Collegiate Invitational held May 19 to 24 at the Pana-ad Stadium in Bacolod City.
The competition, participated in by the country’s top collegiate football teams, was organized by Negros Occidental Cong. Charlie Cojuanco, also president of the Negros Occidental Football Association.
Prior to the tournament, Team FU underwent a month-long football training at the NOFA headquarters in Bago City. They were trained by the former Uruguay national player Coach Maor Rozen, head coach of the Andaluza team of Spain.
"The one month training in Bago City greatly improved the athletes’ tactics in playing. Coach Rozen emphasized that technique is good, but tactic is more important in winning a game." said Assistant Coach John Paul Abejero, who accompanied Team FU to Bago City.
He added that the training and exposure in a high-caliber tournament is expected to boost the team’s chances in other local and national tournaments.
