Foundation University celebrates 60 years (kick off activities slated July 4)

Foundation University is slated to celebrate its 60th founding anniversary on July 4, 2009.  Several activities and programs have been lined-up this academic year in preparation for the anniversary celebration next year.

FU President Dr. Mira D. Sinco announced the kick-off activities and programs that will be held July 4 this year.

The major initiative is the P6 million fund-raising drive of the University through the Office of the President via various fund generating activities that will be initiated by the FU Alumni Association Inc.

The funds raised will finance the anniversary activities and programs, and other community extension initiatives and projects to commemorate the celebration.

Two noteworthy fundraising drives will be launched on July 4:  the Alumni Brick: Walk of Fame, and the Banica Atong Suba Murals.

A fundraising initiative of the FU Alumni Association, the Walk of Fame will be launched in simple ceremonies to recognize alumni and FU friends and supporters who have donated an amount to have their name, course, and year graduated etched in the bricks to be laid out in the University’s main campus walkway.

Dinno T. Depositario, president of the FUAA Inc., said the prospective donors will leave a lasting legacy by way of having their names on bricks, put together with others who have walked the halls of Foundation.

"It’s a noteworthy project to help raise funds for our Alma Mater’s 60th founding anniversary in 2009 by having your name become part of the University’s walkway via a reasonable donation that will entitle the donor to have his name etched on a brick that provides a lasting legacy for future students to see," Depositario added.

Each etched brick for the Walk of Fame costs P1,000 for individuals, P1,500 for a couple, P5,000  for a batch of alumni/group, and P10,000 for personalized bricks that bear the donor’s signature.

On the other hand, the Banica Atong Suba Murals aims to raise environmental awareness within the community by way of a mural donation painted and executed by young local artists headed by FU’s Creative Unit personnel, Hersley Van Casero, whose group is tasked to finish 12 murals donated by various public and private agencies and companies.

The Banica River (from Lower to Upper Bagacay) was adopted by FU as its community extension program.

Other activies slated for July 4, 2008 include:  5:30am Banica River Fun Walk; 7am Founding Anniversary Mass at the Banica River; 8am Mural Launching; 9am University Community Get-Together at the Banica River; 4pm Academic Opening at the Sofia Soller Sinco hall; 5:30pm Alumni Walk of Fame Launching at the University Main Campus; 6:30pm FU Board & Bar Passers’ Reception at the Palm Court; 7pm Greyhound 101.3 Houndfest at the Banica:  An Environmental Concert.
