“FU@60 and Soaring.”

This theme, which highlights the 60^th anniversary celebration of Foundation University, will again be highlighted in the week-long Kasadya-an 2009, which started Saturday.

The activities started with the opening of the Kasadya-an Village inside the Foundation University main campus on Saturday afternoon, followed by the Alumni Homecoming.

The Alumni Homecoming will recognize 60 outstanding alumni representing each year of Foundation University’s existence.
Candidates for the Hara sa FU will again be featured for the Talents’ Night on Tuesday, Dec. 8, while the winners will be known on Thursday, Dec. 10 during the Hara sa FU Coronation Night at the Sofia Soller Sinco Convocation Hall at 7 p.m.

There are eight candidates vying to become this year’s Hara sa FU. The candidates are Jennylyn dela Piedra (College of Agriculture), Hamsirajane Kim Hamsirani (College of Arts and Sciences), Fraulin Sauro (School of Industrial Engineering and Technology), Dizzy Casero (College of Business Administration), Ladylie Ragay (School of Hospitality Management), Shyra Tubog (College of Nursing), Alora Villahermosa (College of Education) and Christine Mae Patula (School of Computer Studies).
University Chaplain Fr. Julius Perpetuo Heruela will also celebrate mass at the FU main campus on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
A presentation of Foundation University talents will be held on Friday, Dec. 11, during the Pasundayag, which promises to be a night of songs and dances from the university’s cultural groups.

The annual parade of lights dubbed as the Kasadya-an Parada will pass through the Dumaguete City streets starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. Patterned after the U.P. Lantern Festival, the Parada soon developed a mardi-gras flavor, accentuated by street dancing, lights and colors.
The Parada ends with a dazzling fireworks display at the FU main campus.

Foundation University, the first Filipino University in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental, was founded in July 4, 1949 by Dr. Vicente Guzman Sinco, an educator and statesman.
