- this is what university life is all about. Whether you are a lover of sports or want to be at one with the environment, Foundation University has courses, clubs and societies that will appeal to everyone.

dance.jpgGetting involved in extra-curricular activities can spice up a routine existence, and it’s not wasted time, either. Through these activities, you can discover your talents and develop your skills outside the classroom. You’ll make friends who share your interests, and learn to communicate and relate to others in an informal and natural way. It’s a great way to overcome shyness and put your best foot forward. You can find the satisfaction that comes with being helpful to those around you, serving your fellow students, the University, and your countrymen.

There are also practical, real world results from these activities: they look good on your record when you’re looking for work. Most employers look closely at the extra-curricular activities on your record because they want a well rounded person, with “people skills”, and these activities are the evidence they need.

There are many campus organizations that you can choose from, with different line-ups of activities for the academic year. But for sure, there will be many events: performances, symposia, field trips, film showings, exhibitions, civic projects, inter-school contests, and, of course, parties.

Fun But if you’re not into sports or clubs, don’t fret. There’s more. You can apply to be a student assistant in one of the campus offices, and take advantage of the scholarship that comes with these positions. This looks good on your record too - it shows that you know how to take responsibility for real work. Or, you can be part of the Student Support Services team, and be of service to your fellow students. Volunteer for training sessions conducted by the guidance and counseling office, or become a peer minister at the campus Ministry office.

If you’re talented, join the performing arts group of the Cultural office, become a writer or editor for Foundation Times, the school newspaper, or for DYFU 101.3 FM, the campus radio station.

Finally, everyone at Foundation University can be part of the annual Kasadya-an Festival, hara sa fu held every December. This is the high point in the university’s calendar, and an important part of the cultural life of Dumaguete. You can take part in an event that celebrates not a moment in history, or a religious happening, but the triumph of the creative spirit. The Kasadya-an is a major Dumaguete tourist attraction, and the region’s oldest and longest celebrated festivity.

The possibilities are endless. Look for your place in the sun. Go out and have fun. Get involved. It’s the only way to enjoy campus life to the fullest.
