Dr. Juan Romeo Nereus “Neric” O. Acosta was introduced formally as member of the Foundation University Board of Trustees during the President’s Press Conference last June 30 at Lawak Kauswagan.
Acosta, being a staunch mover in environmental protection and preservation, was the former representative of the first district of Bukidnon. It can be recalled that he spoke at a convocation held February 2015 and was the Speaker for the 2016 Commencement Exercises.
Aside from being a lawmaker for several terms, Acosta also held key positions in the government such as: Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection and general manager of the Laguna Lake Development Authority.
He completed Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of the Philippines – Diliman in 1986. Acosta obtained Master of Arts in Public Affairs (International Relations and Political Studies) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1987. The University of Hawaii at Manoa conferred a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science in 1994, as a scholar of the East West Center.
Aside from that, he also attended special programs at the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University.
In 2004, Acosta was named as the first Filipino World Fellow of Yale University.
Acosta’s expertise as an academician and environmentalist will add up to the University’s program development ventures in the next few years through the inception of the Vicente G. Sinco School of Governance.
