Foundation University has played a significant role in shaping the career of German Rhon Dibdib, whose journey reflects dedication and passion for education. Currently associated with Harding University High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, his achievements are a testament to the high standards he embraced during his studies in the university.
Under the guidance of mentors in the league of former university president Dr. Mira D. Sinco and former College of Education dean Dr. Thelma E. Florendo, he learned that he can be both gentle and tough at the same time. Dr. Florendo’s advice, “Don’t run like a chicken without its head,” taught him the importance of being proactive and having a plan for every task and endeavor. His leadership experiences with the Foundation University College of Education Student Teacher Organization, as well as his role as associate editor of The Mentors publication, served as pathways for him to reach his full potential.
After earning his Bachelor of Elementary Education degree in 2006 and graduating cum laude from Foundation University, he was hired by the university for three years. During that time, he embraced the roles of educator and mentor, learning a lot from the institution, especially from colleague, Mr. Gerald Ian Marimat.
When he applied to a public school, all his experiences and hard work paid off as he ranked first in the Department of Education Dumaguete Division during the 2009 selection. His 14-year tenure at West City Elementary School was truly his golden years. With a passion for journalism, he served as the school paper adviser and guided students to success in various competitions, achieving multiple titles at the National Schools Press Conference. His dedication to mentoring young journalists was recognized when he was awarded Dumaguete City’s Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser in 2018.
Now in the United States, he remains committed to teaching. Dibdib offers advice to current students and fellow alumni who want to venture into academia: “Don’t strive for perfection; strive for excellence. There is no such thing as being perfect. Learning is a lifelong journey, so be teachable, be coachable, and be a team player,” said Dibdib.
He also offers wisdom for students who wish to excel academically while engaging in extracurricular activities: “Just have fun. Don’t put too much pressure on yourselves. Don’t compete with others; compete with yourself and strive to become a better version of yourself,” he encouraged.
With a rich background in education and mentorship, German Rhon Dibdib embodies the spirit of a Greyhound, inspiring future educators and mentors. (Eiichi P. Ezaki)
